Where do you source your wood and what type of sustainability standards do they meet?Updated 3 years ago

We work with suppliers in Virginia to source premium hardwood. The lumber (all hardwood) is harvested from clearing jobs for developers. Most of that lumber goes to lumber mills but they don't like smaller logs so they turn down the logs with a smaller diameter which means that it goes to the dump. Firewood suppliers pay lower rates to purchase these logs and then use them to create firewood.

The lumber is seasoned for 12 months (minimum) and then kiln-dried to remove parasites, bugs, and bacteria. This process takes place in a wood-scrap powered kiln for 48 hours at 225F, exceeding government regulations.

The delivery trucks run on gasoline and diesel (depending on the truck) and we optimize routes so that we never leave the wood yard without a full truck (up to 4 cords at a time).
